Job Summary
Bread interns are the heart and soul of Bread communities. They are often closer in age to current students, live in the campus house, and enjoy the trust and friendship of students. They serve the team and students in various ways in order to share the good news of Jesus Christ with students on the campus where they serve.
Qualifications
- Is in agreement with Bread Coffeehouse’s statement of belief, mission, core values, behavioral covenant and philosophy of ministry.
- Is eager to learn, humble, and open to feedback.
- Demonstrates an ability to take self-initiative.
- Has a college degree and previous involvement in campus ministry.
Ministry Responsibilities
- Interns will engage local college students with relational ministry in order to share the Gospel.
- Each intern will be given a target group on which to focus their time and energy.
- Interns will be used to reach out to new students and to minister to returning students.
- Interns will be present on campus apart from regularly scheduled programs to meet students and faculty and to become fully immersed in the rhythms of the university.
- Interns will be emotionally available and stable for students, as well as supportive and understanding.
- Interns will perform administrative duties necessary for the ministry.
- Each intern will meet with the Intern Coordinator weekly for spiritual/ministerial formation.
- Interns are expected to attend ALL Bread events (including Love in Action & special weekend activities).
- Interns will perform cooking, cleaning, and coffeehouse tasks throughout the day and at events.
- Each intern must attend a church regularly and bring students to church with them.
Goals of the Internship
- Interns will understand the ins and outs of campus ministry.
- They will be able to see how their strengths and passions affect and impact students.
- They will learn the role of servant leadership within a ministry setting.
- They will know definitely whether or not they would like to continue in campus ministry after their commitment is over.
- They will have a stronger relationship with Jesus when they end the internship than when they started.
Organizational Relationship & Expectations
- Interns report to the Intern Coordinator at the location where they serve. The Intern Coordinator reports to the Team Leader.
- Interns must develop ministry partnerships that provide their salary throughout the year. Partner development coaching, training and materials are provided ahead of the internship. It is expected that interns will reach their funding goal by the start of the internship in August.
- Interns will communicate positively and effectively with students, partners and teammates.
- Intern development occurs before the beginning of the internship, including partner development training, personal development, and summer training opportunities.
- The internship begins early August & ends late-May. Work schedules loosely follow the University Schedule August through May with a few exceptions which will be determined by each campus’ Team Lead based on training needs and special events (service trips, etc.)
- Interns will work approximately 50 hours per week, with 5 of those hours being during the weekend. Special weekend events will require more. Weekly schedules are determined by the Intern Coordinator at each location.
- Days off are determined by location and announced by the Team Lead.
