Internship Dates: 100 hours to be scheduled between May 8 and August 13, 2025, primarily between May 27 and July 31.

- City and County Outreach, based at the Bennett Martin Public Library (136 S. 14th Street, 68508) *This position requires reliable transportation to report to sites through the City of Lincoln and Lancaster County as assigned according to a schedule.
There are three required training sessions and required attendance at a Library Board meeting, all at the Bennett Martin Public Library (136 South 14th Street, 68508). Mileage will be reimbursed if using a personal vehicle. Reimbursement for other means of transportation will not be available. Specific dates and locations is listed on the individual postings for the positions.
Hours: Part-time, Monday – Sunday as assigned. Hours will vary. May include some evenings until 8:00 pm. This is a temporary internship position that ends on or before August 13, 2025. Specific scheduling requirements for each of the positions is listed on their individual postings.
The Nebraska Library Internship program introduces high school and college students to the varied and exciting work of Nebraska libraries by involving them in real library work that takes advantage of their experience and interests. Interns at all locations will be introduced to the full array of public library work including the scope and value of the variety of diverse programs and activities held at public libraries throughout the state. Tasks will include checking materials in, checking materials out, placing materials on hold, requesting items via InterLibrary Loan, creating/maintaining displays, answering reference questions, registering customers for library cards, providing community outreach, facilitating Maker events, registering customers for Summer Reading, and assisting with regular programming and special events.
Credit: Internships are funded by the 2025 Nebraska Library Commission Internship Grant Program. This project is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.
Minimum qualifications/Necessary Special requirements/Abilities & Skills: (first two are grant required.)
- Be a student in high school or college.
- Never been employed by a library or as an intern at a library (previously or currently .[There are no restrictions associated with students who have served as volunteers at a library.]
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Have an interest in libraries.
- Possess basic computer skills.
- Able to work well with customers of all ages and backgrounds.
- Bilingual language skills are a plus.
