EPPA’s Medical Scribes work closely with physicians (MD/DO), physician assistants (PA), and nurse practitioners (NP) by joining them during patient encounters in the Emergency Department. Their primary responsibility is to document the entire patient visit in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), allowing healthcare providers to focus more on patient care and improving the department’s overall efficiency. Scribes record all aspects of the visit, including patient history, physical exams, outcomes, treatment plans, lab results, imaging, and more. In return, Scribes become familiar with the workflow of medicine, the medical decision-making process, medical terminology, and different provider styles of patient care.
In addition to hands-on clinical experience, EPPA is committed to supporting Scribes’ professional growth. Scribes are mentored by experienced healthcare providers and are offered opportunities to attend monthly educational workshops, professional development lectures, and receive expert pre-health advice, ensuring they have guidance in navigating the application process for medical, PA, or other healthcare programs. Through this combination of mentorship, training, and educational support, EPPA prepares Scribes to excel in their future medical careers. These resources are designed to provide critical insights into medical practice and clinical decision-making, helping Scribes build a strong foundation for their future medical careers.
