Director of the Academic Achievement Center

Position Summary
Heathwood Hall Episcopal School seeks an ambitious, experienced and dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Academic Achievement Center (AAC). The Director of the Academic Achievement Center (AAC) oversees all aspects of the AAC, works closely with Division Heads and classroom teachers to support students and families, and assists the Admissions Office in the enrollment of students at Heathwood Hall.
Essential Functions
- Directs programs and services for the Academic Achievement Center in order to supervise and effectively use the skills and competencies of tutors/staff, and works with the Head of School and the Division Heads to establish both personal and departmental goals for the Academic Achievement Center.
- Coordinates the procedures for referral, screening, evaluation, and special services of students referred for tutorial assistance through the AAC for all division levels, i.e., preschool, lower, middle, and upper schools.
- Conducts screening, observation, and/or diagnostic testing for students referred for special services, i.e., diagnostic reading or math testing.
- Directs, coordinates, and facilitates the development and implementation of individual student profiles with specific accommodations designed to meet the unique needs of the individual learner.
- Coordinates with upper school administration to ensure that students with diagnosed disabilities receive appropriate accommodations on standardized testing, e.g., PSAT, SAT, ACT.
- Serves as the liaison & consultant between school, parents, community, exceptional needs scholarships (ECENC), and applicable agencies/schools for student support services offered through the AAC & HHES.
- Works with school administrators, support staff, teachers, and tutors to establish effective tutoring, individual education plans, and/or support services for individual students.
- Assists in identifying and/or encouraging participation in available staff development training options for faculty and tutors.
- Works directly with regular classroom teachers to support instruction in the classroom to meet the needs of students with identified learning differences.
- Develops and maintains records and databases on all students who attend the AAC, tutorial services, materials, equipment, and supplies, and provides data analysis and statistical records for all students with diagnosed learning differences.
- Effectively conferences with parents, administrators, teachers, staff, and tutors concerning individual students.
- Disseminates up-to-date ideas and information to other professionals; provides in-service to teachers, staff, tutors, and/or parents as requested.
- Serves as a contributing member of the admissions committee for all students with suspected and/or diagnosed learning differences to determine eligibility for admissions to Heathwood.
- Functions as a team leader for AAC staff and fosters collegiality and team building among tutors, encouraging their active involvement in planning and implementing individual education profiles for students, and promotes the awareness of learning differences in children and assumes the responsibility for the professional guidance, supervision, development, and evaluation of staff/tutors.
- Recruits, screens, and interviews tutors for employment. Oversees monthly payroll for all tutors, and maintains monthly academic fee charges for all students attending AAC and prepares billing statements for accounts payable.
- Makes recommendations concerning the purchase and use of specialized equipment, supplies, and/or instructional materials.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education or Educational Administration with a concentration in learning disabilities preferred
- Five years teaching experience with exceptional students who have specific learning disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of current practices and research in specific learning disabilities, and federal/state guidelines in special education
- Experience in interpretation of psych-educational testing for exceptional children and development of individual learning profiles.

Working Conditions
- Indoors and outdoors: The Director works closely with administrators and educators housed in various classrooms around campus. Outside travel may be required multiple times per day
- Attendance at some school events (both within and outside of the school day) at which the presence of the Director is required
