Job Description
MITRE delivers to its customers the full spectrum of software development capabilities from prototyping, through architecture and modeling, to software assessments. We prototype new capabilities and deliver advanced experimental functionality to address unmet business and mission needs.
As an Intern working in software engineering or computer science, you will work with a team to apply your knowledge and gain experience with one or more of the following:
- Front-end, back-end, middleware or full-stack software development
- Artificial intelligence
- Cyber software
- DevSecOps
- Mobile computing
- Embedded systems and Internet of Things
- Machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Modeling and simulation
- Model-based engineering
- Virtual reality
Basic Qualifications
- Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related degree program and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
- “Hands-on” skills in at least one or more programming language
- Exposure to software development tools and frameworks, including source control management tools (e.g., Git)
- Familiarity with software development methodologies
- Sustained excellence in academic performance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience having applied computer science learning to an internship or research/lab position.
- Knowledge of software design patterns
- Knowledge of database technologies, including relational or NoSQL
- Demonstrated interest in serving the public
Clearance: In addition to passing MITRE’s employment background check, you may be submitted for a U.S. Government Security clearance. This is determined by the Department of Defense’s adjudicative guidelines for receiving a clearance, to include U.S. citizenship. Other jobs may require vetting for various levels of agency public trust, fitness, suitability, controlled access, and special programs access determination consistent with the work program to which you are assigned.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$33,000 – $41,500 – $50,000 Annual
