THE NSLC IS LOOKING FOR OFFICE ASSISTANTS FOR SUMMER 2023.
National Student Leadership Conference
Since 1989, thousands of outstanding high school students have attended the NSLC to explore today’s most exciting careers, develop essential leadership skills, and experience life on a college campus. The NSLC is a 9-day overnight conference providing talented high school students from around the world with hands-on academic experiences, opportunities to meet working professionals, and a safe and supportive environment for students to explore career interests while developing leadership skills essential for their success. Office Assistants help support the administration of these programs by preparing, coordinating, and executing NSLC’s leadership programming.
The Role of Office Assistant
Office Assistants (OAs) work with the Office Manager to complete administrative tasks, facilitate student arrivals and departures, serve as a liaison between the NSLC on-site office and the University, and serve as a liaison between the NSLC on-site office and the NSLC enrollment office. The Office Assistant position is an amazing opportunity to work in the administration of NSLC’s educational leadership programs, all while supporting talented young students. Office Assistants arrive on-site 7 days before students arrive in order to participate in a mandatory orientation and training and to set up the site for student arrival. This training runs from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily. Following training, OAs will work for 9-day sessions with 3-day breaks in between. During sessions, Office Assistants set up and break down rooms for program activities, answer phone calls and emails, prepare and distribute program materials, and ensure that the operations of the site are running smoothly. OAs work very long days and are expected to be ready to assist NSLC staff and students at any point during the program. A typical day lasts from 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM. Office Assistants also assist with the closing of the site at the end of the summer.
Requirements for Employment
Office Assistants must be current college students or recent college graduates with a background and interest in organization and logistics coordination. Being that the core focus of NSLC is on leadership, candidates for all programs should have leadership experience. Training days prior to the start of the session are mandatory. When applying, please submit a cover letter and resume along with your application. The NSLC requires all hired staff members to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Dates & Compensation
Office Assistants will be paid $900 at the end of each session. The NSLC pays for room & board, meals during sessions (most of which are eaten in the dining hall on campus), and transportation to and from the conference.
