The Occupational Therapist will serve as a core member of the Evoked Potential Operant Conditioning (EPOC) lab study team investigating a neuromodulation protocol in individuals with spinal cord injury and other neuromuscular disorders. This position will support and facilitate the EPOC lab rehabilitation research studies by leading neuromodulation intervention administration and clinical assessments, assisting with study participant recruitment and enrollment, and upholding regulatory requirements. This position will also support the development of EPOC lab research program within and beyond the College of Health Professions at MUSC, grow and maintain collaborative relationships among patients, clinicians, and investigators through rehabilitation neuroscience research projects and educational training projects.

Job Description
Position Purpose: The Occupational Therapist will serve as a core member of the Evoked Potential Operant Conditioning (EPOC) lab study team investigating a neuromodulation protocol in individuals with spinal cord injury and other neuromuscular disorders. This position will support and facilitate the EPOC lab rehabilitation research studies by leading neuromodulation intervention administration and clinical assessments, assisting with study participant recruitment and enrollment, and upholding regulatory requirements. This position will also support the development of EPOC lab research program within and beyond the College of Health Professions at MUSC, grow and maintain collaborative relationships among patients, clinicians, and investigators through rehabilitation neuroscience research projects and educational training projects.
Job Duties:
- Leads administration of experimental neurorehabilitation interventions. Collects all necessary data thoroughly and accurately without missing data. Documents intervention-related or other activities in which the study participants are engaged, from the time of study enrollment through follow-up evaluations. 35%
- Performs routine clinical and functional assessments pre- and post-intervention, in accordance with approved human subject study protocols. 20%
- Securely stores and organizes all intervention-related data collected. Checks data quality and improves procedures for complete data collection/entry as necessary. 25%
- Assists the management of the clinical study data collected, including quality of life questionnaires and relevant medical records. Recognizes indications of participant’s intolerance of procedures, unanticipated rate of progress, significantly altered physical/mental status, or undesirable secondary effects of study participation. Advises the PI, collaborators, and team investigators on a variety of operational and procedural issues as appropriate. Works effectively with study participants, significant others, investigation team members and other rehabilitation professionals in facilitating study patients’ neurorehabilitation research participation at the EPOC lab, College of Health Professions at MUSC, and beyond. 10%
- Contributes to the EPOC lab research dissemination activities, including (but not limited to) conference presentation, web content development, promotional resource development, and community outreach events to reach out to the relevant clinicians, scholars, consumers, and the general public. 5%
- Assists with the preparation and presentation of study progress and safety metrics for audits, safety monitoring board meetings, and regulatory requirements for clinical trials. Attends all study related seminars, workshops, in-service meetings and lectures to increase self-knowledge and skills. Shares new or improved techniques with other research personnel and center investigators. 5%

Required Minimum Education and Experience:
- Licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
- A bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy or closely related field
Preferred Training and Experience:
- A graduate (master’s or doctorate) degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Licensed as a Occupational Therapist by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
- 5 or more years of work experience as a occupational therapist in the field of neurological rehabilitation.
- Board certified specialist in neurology, clinical electrophysiology, or geriatrics.
- Previous work experience in neurological rehabilitation research.
MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and experience as an occupational therapist. Licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
